I stopped apologizing for the space I take up.

“Sorry for speaking up.” “Sorry for having needs.” “Sorry for existing.”

When did we decide our presence required an apology?

I had a father who said I was only allowed to speak when spoken to. That’s a tough one to battle when you are outspoken and full of words to share! Although it made me quiet and submissive in my younger years, I learned that it didn’t serve me to cower in the corners.
